The Moorestown Jewish Association’s annual menorah lighting on the Community House lawn represents the spirit of community and unity.
The Moorestown Jewish Association and Chabad Lubavitch of Camden and Burlington counties will host the annual township menorah lighting on the Community House lawn at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17.
“The holiday season is the most beautiful here in Moorestown,” said Brooke Mailhiot, president of the association. “Seeing the menorah lit up on the Community House lawn – which is seen as such a beautiful, historical pillar of our community and a meeting ground for everyone – it’s such a beautiful experience.
“It’s just beautiful that everybody can come together and share our tradition and our holiday with us.”
The menorah lighting represents not only the celebration of Hanukkah, but also the spirit of community and unity in town. Refreshments will include latkes, donuts and cider, and there will be entertainment and crafts for kids.
The association has hosted the event for years, but this year marks the second time the menorah will light up the Community House Lawn and Main Street. Last year, the association raised funds for a new 12-foot LED menorah.

“Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, you remember celebrating Hanukkah with family and you want your kids to have a little bit of tradition,” Mailhiot noted, “or you want your kids to learn about other religions and other traditions. Everyone is invited.”
The association is open to all Jewish township residents, affiliated and unaffiliated, and the group fosters relationships through community-based Jewish experiences such as holiday events, educational activities and social gatherings for people of all ages.
“ … It’s Judaism reimagined,” Mailhiot explained. “You don’t have to belong to a synagogue or a temple. You can be in an interfaith marriage, maybe you haven’t practiced Judaism for years since you were a kid, maybe you are very active in your synagogue and you want a little bit of something else.
“We can provide that to you no matter what age you are and what age your children are.”
