Mullica Hill’s Lights on Main event will usher in the holiday season when it begins along Main Street at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29.

Thousands are expected at the four-hour celebration, which will feature a decorated Main Street and a Santa’s workshop at the corner of Main and Mullica Hill Road. An Elfie Selfie photo station will also be on hand.

Two stages will be set up near Mullica Hill Baptist Church for performances from student choirs and the local band, The Company. More bounce houses are being added this year, with a new location near the stages. Snow machines will be used to make the event feel like a winter wonderland and several businesses along the street will have specials.

Other attractions will include an ice sculpture artist, a gingerbread smash game, the twinkle holiday stop and horse carriage rides. The main attraction at Lights on Main is the lighting of the Christmas tree in front of the Old Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. The entire event is organized by the Harrison Township Recreation Commission.

“It’s wonderful to see all the families come out and celebrate,” said Recreation Coordinator Sharon Chew. “It’s a wonderful start to the holiday season. It’s huge, huge, huge – and it gets bigger every year.”

The event’s main sponsor is Inspira Health; others are OKKA Karate, Romano Realty, Wolf Fitness-MH and Green Lane of South Jersey. Funding comes from the sponsors, as well as recreation commission fundraisers.

“Without them (Inspira) and our other sponsors, it (Lights on Main) wouldn’t happen,” Chew acknowledged. “Not one cent of it is paid for from taxpayer money.”
