A juvenile from Camden has been charged with theft after an investigation into a series of motor-vehicle thefts that began in Gloucester Township and ended in Camden City on Oct. 6.

Township officers got a alert regarding a stolen vehicle in the Lincoln Avenue area of Blackwood at about 3 a.m. that day. State police then located the vehicle traveling along Route 42 and initiated a pursuit that was ended because of the suspect’s reckless driving, police said. Camden officers later spotted the same vehicle and also pursued it until it was unsafe to continue.

Township police detectives used Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR) to trace the vehicle’s movement into Camden and shared it with police there as well as other law enforcement, resulting in location of the vehicle and its juvenile driver.

Officers deployed stationary tire deflation devices to disable the car. Despite the teen’s attempt to flee, the vehicle was quickly immobilized and the teen was taken into custody. The juvenile was charged by state police with the theft of four motor vehicles from the township; resisting arrest; and receiving stolen property, among other offenses.

Anyone observing suspicious activity is encouraged to contact the township police at (856) 228-4500. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the GTPD Anonymous Crime Tip Line at (856) 842-5560 or online at gtpolice.com/tips.
