In a proud family moment spanning generations of military service, Michael T. Harrigan was formally promoted to commander in the U.S. Navy.
His oath was administered by his grandfather, Thomas F. Harrigan, a retired commander who served 22 years of active duty in the Navy. Michael’s father, Tom, attended the U.S. Naval Academy, and Michael followed him there.
The ceremony was held virtually via Zoom, connecting Tom, a long-time Moorestown resident, with a grandson stationed in Stuttgart, Germany.
“This moment reflects not only Michael’s accomplishments,” Tom noted, “but also the values our family holds dear.”
“Having my grandfather, who inspired me with his leadership and dedication, deliver the oath makes this achievement especially meaningful,” Michael said. “Being able to personalize such a milestone is one of the highlights of my career.”
The 2006 graduate of Moorestown High School earned his wings in 2013 and now flies the E-2 Hawkeye. Currently assigned to U.S. European Command, Michael and his family will return to Norfolk, Virginia, next year, when he will assume the role of Executive Officer of the VAW-121 squadron.
