Chris Greco wants to provide injured ducks with predator-proof spaces at the South Jersey Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
Boy Scout Chris Greco, a 17-year-old member of Mantua Troop 7083, is teaming with the South Jersey Wildlife Rehabilitation Center to build a predator-proof enclosures for ducks.
The township center is nonprofit dedicated to helping wild animals in need and ensuring they can survive in the wild. The enclosures are intended to be housing for the ducks in the event they need to recover from injuries. Greco is doing the work as part of his Eagle Scout project.
“I enjoy nature and helping animals, so I thought this was the perfect project to do,” Greco said on why he chose the project. “South Jersey Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is also a great place, so I knew they’re who I wanted to work with.”
According to Scouting America, the Eagle rank is the highest that can be attained in the organization. One of its requirements is for a Scout to do a community-based service project that betters something in the community.
“These houses are necessary to assure the animals are safe and secure while in our care” says Angelique Gorman, who runs the rehabilitation center.
In order to get the necessary amount of money for his project supplies and materials, Greco is holding a fundraiser he calls Sponsor a Duck. For every $5 donation, individuals will receive rubber ducks as a thank you.
Those interested in donating can do so through Venmo user John-Greco-47 or through PayPal to user greco1021. A delivery address for the rubber ducks must also be provided in the payment notes. Local doorstep delivery will be provided by Greco for residents of Mantua, Mullica Hill and Pitman.
“You can even send ducks to a friend or relative as a fun surprise while supporting a good cause”, he said.
