The Washington Township Police Department’s Patrol Bureau and Traffic Safety Unit will launch its first-ever “Operation School Watch” initiative, running from Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Friday, Sept. 12.

This campaign will place a strong emphasis on traffic safety around its 11 schools during the opening weeks of the new school year. Residents can expect to see increased police presence in school zones, near school buses, and along bus routes. Officers will focus on violations such as speeding in school zones, failure to stop for school buses, seatbelt enforcement, pedestrian crossing violations and distracted driving/cell phone violations.

“As we begin Operation School Watch here in Washington Township, the safety of our children is our number one priority,” Chief Patrick Gurcsik said. “We are committed to ensuring drivers follow the rules that keep Washington Township safe. We urge all motorists to slow down, stay alert, and eliminate distractions when driving through school areas. Working together, we can make sure every child arrives at school and returns home safely.”
