The Delran Seniors Club is a monthly social group of guests 55 and up in the township and neighboring areas who can talk and share during lunch.
Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 1 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Bridgeboro Road in Delran. A complete lunch is available at every meeting for $10 at sign-in. It’s recommended that all who attend arrive by 12:30 p.m. There is a door prize drawing and raffles with desserts provided by members.
“(People) come together with people their age and interests, and they just chat the whole time they’re there (at the meetings),” said club president Betty Jewell.
An attempt is made to have speakers at each meeting to offer members and non-members information relevant to their lives and needs. A representative from the Burlington County Office on Aging spoke at a session last year and discussed all the programs it has for New Jersey residents.
“I bring in speakers that can tell them (members/non-members) what is offered – by say – our county and what is offered by our town,” Jewell explained. “People from the county have come and explained to them about all the services that some of them didn’t even know we had that they can get.”
Club membership is $10 a year and members enjoy two day trips a year supported by Delran. The cost includes transportation from the township, a complete meal and gratuities, except for the driver. The cost for a resident member is $25, while non-resident/non-members pay the full cost depending on the show.
This spring, the club saw a production of “Fiddler on the Roof” in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, that included a buffet lunch.
“It’s very good camaraderie,” Jewell noted. “Otherwise they (members) wouldn’t come back. They come every month because of their friendships, and I love when they’re laughing and having fun. That to me is the best part, is watching everybody having fun.”
This year’s Christmas Party will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9, from noon to 5 p.m. and will be catered by Due Amici in Cinnaminson. There will be an open bar for wine, beer and soft drinks, with other libations available for purchase. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

“I think it’s not as important what we do,” Jewell pointed out, “but that they (people) come and enjoy the company of each other.”
