The soulful voice of Megan Knight filled Veteran’s Park on Monday, July 21, as the Williamstown native brought her bold, genre-blending sound to the Gloucester Township Sounds of Summer concert series. Backed by a loyal local and regional fanbase, Knight delivered a powerhouse performance that fused heartfelt country with touches of rock and pop, captivating the crowd from the very first note.

Knight, who gained national attention through appearances on “American Idol” and “The Voice,”performed several of her latest releases during the 7 p.m. concert, including her newest single “Shot in the Dark.” The evening included interactive moments like a fan engagement zone hosted by Fanworks, where concertgoers competed to submit their best pickup lines for a chance to win exclusive merch.

“It was amazing,” said Knight about performing for her hometown crowd. “It was good seeing such a great turnout and it was a blast. We had a fan engagement area where people could win merch, and the crowd energy was everything.”

Knight’s music style reflects the diverse musical landscape she grew up in across South Jersey.

“Rock was big around here when I started out, but country was always in my heart,” she said. “Then I explored pop and even worked in TV and commercial music. I’m so glad country has welcomed me back with open arms. There were so many signs from the universe telling me I belonged in country music.”

Those signs have been paying off. Knight recently hit the stage at the Barefoot Country Music Festival in Wildwood, where she opened for big-name headliners like Jelly Roll, Ella Langley, and Jordan Davis.

“That was my proudest moment so far,” she shared. “I had that goal on my wall, and to see it come true — it meant everything.”

During her Gloucester Township set, Knight’s authenticity and powerful vocals drew cheers from longtime fans, including family friend and mentor Ed Fiscella.

“I’ve followed Megan since she was in middle school performing in our shows and show choir at MainStage,” said Fiscella. “That night, I sat there amazed — she has arrived. The music was as good as any professional group. She commanded the stage and charmed the audience. It was the best I’ve ever seen her. She’s put it all together.”

Knight credits her journey through national television competitions with shaping her identity as an artist.

“One thing ‘American Idol’ taught me was that you have to pick a lane,” she said. “I had to figure out my brand. That’s when I learned I needed to develop a real image and start making bold decisions about who I was artistically.”

Today, Knight describes herself as a deeply spiritual artist, infusing her music with themes of empowerment and emotional healing.

“I hope especially for the young kids out there that they realize their dreams are possible with consistency,” she said. “When people listen to my music, I want them to feel empowered. I always try to approach things from a healing angle because music brings people together like nothing else.”

Fans were especially delighted when Knight performed her crowd-favorite “Boots on the Ground,” a high-energy anthem with a line dance choreographed by her friend. The dance has even gone viral overseas.

“Seeing people in India dancing to my song on YouTube was the coolest thing ever,” Knight said with a laugh.

Knight, who is set to release her first full-length album this fall, says the project has been three years in the making and was recorded in Alabama alongside Grammy-winning producer Jimmy Nutt and hit songwriter James Oblong.

“They’ve mentored me since I was 13,” she said. “This album is really the culmination of years of hard work and guidance.”

The upcoming release promises to be a defining moment in Knight’s career — but she’s far from done.
