Deptford police concluded the department’s junior police academy with a ceremony at the community center on July 18.

The camp – from July 14 to July 18 – is for kids in grades five through nine who want to learn more about police work. The campers heard from law-enforcement agencies, learned drill cadences and participated in a daily physical fitness routine to demostrate what happens during actual police academy training.

The families of campers were invited to the ending ceremony, along with the mayor and council.

“We are so proud of our cadets this year,” the department noted on its social media pages. “Through sheer determination, they graduated from the program and showed their collective and individual toughness. Amazing job recruits, all of you.”

The program got help from the state police, Gloucester County EMS and Police Chief Joseph Smith.
