Ella Harris Park will be the setting for the camps as part of a partnership with the Dance Factory in Gloucester County.

The Harrison Township Recreation Commission is teaming with the Dance Factory in Glassboro for a series of summer dance camps at the pavilion in Ella Harris Park.

The camp of Moana Island Adventure will take place from Monday, June 23, to Thursday, June 26. It is themed around the Disney movie, “Moana,” and will stress cultural diversity through dance. The camp will be split each day into two classes, one for kids ages 4 to 6 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and another for kids 7 to 9 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The second set of camps will take place from Monday, July 7, to Thursday, July 10. Kids from ages 4 to 6 will participate in the Bluey Summer Bash, with dances inspired by the TV show, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Campers ages 7 to 9 will be part of Defying Gravity, a camp based on the musical, “Wicked,” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“This gives kids the opportunity to see if they like dance without plugging into a weekly program somewhere,” explained township recreation coordinator Sharon Chew. “With each class, children are encouraged to wear their fanciest outfit, and at the end of the camp, they put on a performance for their families.”

According to Chew, the partnership with the Dance Factory goes back more than 15 years, after its owner was introduced to the recreation commission.

“We’ve continued the partnership all these years later,” she noted.

The Dance Factory has gone beyond Glassboro to participate in Mullica Hill events, including Harrison Township Day and Lights on Main in November.

Parents must register their kids for a fee at signupgenius.com. Each camp has a maximum capacity of 20 campers for each class.
