Stella Farms in Berlin is once again playing a key role in Camden County’s fight against food insecurity among seniors with its seasonal farmer’s market voucher program.

As part of an effort by county commissioners, the vouchers grant qualifying seniors access to fresh, locally grown produce during summer and fall. From May through November, those 60 and older who meet income guidelines can receive a $40 voucher to use exclusively at markets across the county.

Stella Farms has been a beloved source of fruits and vegetables for decades.

“The summer voucher program is a lifeline to so many seniors here in Camden County,” said Commissioner Virginia Betteridge, liaison to the Division of Senior Services. “No one should worry about being able to afford fresh, nutritious food, and these vouchers allow us to alleviate some stress for our residents.”

Stella Farms – located at  459 New Freedom Rd. Berlin, NJ 08009 – is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers a wide range of local produce grown in South Jersey. For seniors who rely on seasonal fruits and vegetables for their health, the market provides not only nourishment, but a sense of community and tradition.

The $40 vouchers, provided as QR codes, can only be used to purchase state-grown fruits and vegetables at certified market locations and cannot be redeemed at grocery or produce stores.

To qualify for the program, applicants must:

  • Be 60 years of age or older
  • Live in Camden County
  • Meet income requirements
  • Present proper documentation

Other markets participating in the voucher program include the Collingswood farmer’s market; Springdale Farms in Cherry Hill; and the Haddonfield farmer’s market, among others.

Seniors or family members who want more information on the voucher program and its eligibility – or who want to ask questions – can call the county’s Division of Senior Services at (856) 858-3220.
