Township students and the Community Partners of the Delran STEM Ecosystem Alliance are hosting the eighth annual Delran STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fair on Monday.

The event will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. prior to the regularly scheduled board of education meeting at the township high school. It will showcase the Delran Innovation and Fabrication Laboratory; Star Lab (an interactive blow-up planetarium); Tesla Coil demonstrations by Lockheed Martin; and other technology, as well student-made products. Registrations for the Delran Cubs STEAM Up summer camp will include free giveaways to families.

The municipality will have police and fire trucks to demonstrate technology on the job. Food sales from Kona Water Ice and Delran Education Foundation-sponsored food will be available, as will sales of the district’s own plants grown in the Greenhouse/Biotech facility. Old prescription medications will also be collected by Delran police.

The goal is to expose the Delran community to the school district’s growing programs.

“… Our facilities and in and out of school time offerings in Delran are growing, and we
want the residents of Delran to see how far we have come,” said Erica DeMichele, the district’s K-12 supervisor.

“The opportunities for all students to move into a career in a STEM field is growing, including our strong connection to higher education and businesses in our area,” she added. “Students are being exposed early on to the importance of learning new skills which will move them into great professions once they graduate.”
