Evesham will host its fourth annual Juneteenth celebration on Friday at Savich Field on Main Street.

All township residents are invited to celebrate the nation’s oldest commemoration of slavery’s end. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to take control of the state and ensure all slaves were freed. It came a full two-and-a-half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is also considered the longest-running African American holiday, one that became official on June, 17, 2021.

Evesham’s Juneteenth event will include vendors, food, games and other activities, along with live entertainment. Free burgers will be provided by Evesham police.
