Patches and medals are among items that will be available at American Legion Post 452’s military flea market.

American Legion Post 452 in Mullica Hill will host its semi-annual military collectibles flea market and show on Saturday, April 19.

The event will feature current military memorabilia, as well as items that go all the way back to the Revolutionary War.

“People can also find authentic and copied uniforms for reenactment,” said David Tinney, Coast Guard veteran, a post member and the show’s coordinator. “I’ve enjoyed putting it (the event) on.”

Some of the other items featured will include weapons from each respective period – like muskets from the 18th century – uniform patches identifying units and ranks and famous military photos. While some items are for sale, others are purely for show, such as a selection of World War II artifacts from a friend of Tinney’s that includes American, German and Japanese souvenirs.

The market will also feature a reenactment by members of the 12th New Jersey Infantry Regiment, who served in the Union army during the Civil War and fought in a number of battles, most notably at Gettysburg.

During that fight, according to a website dedicated to the unit, the regiment helped secure the strategically important Bliss Barn and joined the Union Army against Pickett’s Charge, moves that helped drive the Confederate forces back and secure a decisive victory for the Union.

“The reenactors will put on a show, talk to people and tell them what their job is all about,” Tinney noted. “They’ll have their weapons and a table set up with all types of armaments, canteens and more.”

Hours for the flea market are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the post building, 141 North Main St. All proceeds will benefit the post. Another flea market will be held in October.
