The Millville Woman’s Club (MWC) was adorned in St. Patrick’s Day green for its March meeting. Pam McNamee, club president, thanked hostesses Donna Pio, Judy Moore, and Jackie Andaloro for their St. Patty’s Day decor and the delicious array of food.

Following the luncheon, Linda Green, MWC program chair, introduced Myrna Crawford, a member of the Women’s Club of Vineland and chairperson of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC) Southern District Domestic Violence and Prevention Committee. Crawford gave a presentation about her own background, which resulted in her mission to spread awareness about the problem and educate people as to avenues available for information, guidance, and assistance. She noted that domestic violence encompasses physical and verbal, as well as mental abuse and stressed that it affects women, men, and children, impacting the entire family.

In the past, this was a more private issue and victims were often afraid to discuss it. Fortunately, this has changed. Victims and others are speaking out about domestic violence. Crawford made members aware of educational material, a free confidential 24-hour hotline, crisis intervention, medical and legal assistance, individual and family counseling and emergency safe housing through Center for Family Services (centerffs.org/serv) and Cumberland County Child Advocacy Center (serv@centerffs.org). Crawford provided her contact information, inviting others to join her on this mission against domestic violence
