The Garden State Film Festival returns for its 23rd year from Thursday to Sunday.

The festival was created in 2002 after the chance encounter in a Sea Girt grocery store of film industry veteran Diane Raver and actor Robert Pastorelli. With deep ties to the movie business, they were able to bring an all-encompassing event to New Jersey beginning in 2003.

The showcase includes 200 films from 16 countries, 49 events showcased across nine venues and more than 40 live podcasts. The festival will also include panels and special events, according to press release.

“New Jersey is brimming with hidden gems and creative energy, and the Garden State Film Festival is proud to showcase them year-round,” said Lauren Concar Sheehy, executive director of the event.
