The township will host its annual Easter egg Hunt at the top of Deptford Memorial Park, also known as Fasola Park, on Saturday, April 12, at 9:30 a.m. The township expects about 300 kids to attend/

The event will be split into three age groups each starting at different times. Kids ages 3 and under will go first at 9:30 a.m., followed by kids 4 through 6 at 9:50 a.m. The hunt will close out at 10:10 a.m. for kids who are 7 to 9.

“It’s a great family event and people love it,” said Mayor Paul Medany. “It tells us, ‘here comes spring,’ and it’s our first outdoor event of the year. We’ve moved it around over the years. It’s been at the soccer fields (on Cattell Road) and, when there’s rain, it’s at the Deptford Community Center.”

Medany and members of the township council will be in attendance at the hunt, along with members of the police department and township administration. The Easter bunny will be on hand to greet families and pose for pictures with kids.

Hundreds of eggs filled with candy will be used in the event, according to Medany. Attendees are asked to provide their own baskets for collection. Pictures with the Easter bunny are free and come in a 4-by-6 frame.

The Easter egg hunt is being organized by the township’s recreation department and its volunteers will help put together special prize baskets, as well as providing the actual eggs. The department also sets up the township’s other events, such as the annual fall festival every October and the annual tree lighting in December.

“The recreation department sets it all up and they do a fantastic job with their work,” said Medany. “Events like these are a part of building community spirit in Deptford.”
