The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s office announced that Vineland’s Sabater Elementary School hosted a “Cumberland ROCKS!” event recently where the students enjoyed painting rocks with positive messages and then walking around the neighborhood to put their rock in a special place.

Cumberland ROCKS! is an initiative to promote social-emotional learning for kids of all ages in order to increase their awareness about the benefits of living in Cumberland County. Youth can express their creativity while also celebrating what they love about where they live—Cumberland County. If citizens love where they live, they are more likely to take care of their community and be ambassadors for it.

Positive things in Cumberland County (i.e. nature, sports, experiences, people, open spaces, etc.) are discussed and then youth paint a scene, hobby, person, anything that they see as “gems” in their community. The painted rocks are displayed to allow others to enjoy.

For information on how to participate in the CC ROCKS! initiative, contact Community Justice Specialist Bessy Gallicchio at BessyGa@CumberlandCountyNJ.gov. If you just want to paint a rock and spread the love within the community, snap a photo and share it with Bessy and post it to social media with #CCROCKS! Photos will be posted throughout this initiative.
