The final beam was put in place last month for Inspira Health’s new expansion building. Dozens came out to watch.
Gloucester County Commissioner Frank DiMarco was one of many who signed the beam to mark the expansion.

Inspira Health hosted a ceremony on Feb. 27 to celebrate placement of the last beam erected for the hospital’s expansion project.

A new building is set to open in early 2027, according to hospital CEO Amy Mansue. Dozens came out for a ceremony marking the beam placement, including Inspira employees and elected officials from the local, county and state levels.

“As I stand here,” said attorney Betsy A. Ryan, chair of Inspira’s board of trustees. “I think about the reason why we’re all here today. And that is to provide the best care for the people of South Jersey and provide it in their backyards.”

The new building’s construction began in September of 2024. It will see 86 new beds added – 44 at opening and 42 post-completion – as well as hundreds of new parking spaces to better accomodate staff, patients and visitors.

“With our new interventional radiology suite and neuro-focused ICU,” noted Jaymica Patel, chief medical officer of Inspira Mullica Hill and Woodbury, “we will be able to care for more stroke patients right here, at home, without having to transfer them and really keeping them close to their family.

“This expansion and our partnership with Cooper (Hospital) may soon enable us to perform complex neuroectomies right here, in Mullica Hill, again advancing the care that we provide in the community.”

Improvements to cardiac care and maternity services will also be a part of the expansion, along with the addition of a new simulation lab for education, part of Inspira’s partnership with Rowan University for the college’s health-care programs.

Before the beam was put in place, employees and officials had the chance to sign their names to it and write a message, as a way to make themselves part of the project. They included Harrison Township Mayor Adam Wingate, who also spoke during the event.

“Today marks a new chapter in the story of our shared commitment with Inspira Hospital to provide health, well-being and a brighter future for our community,” he observed. “This hospital is more than just a building, it’s a place where lives will be transformed. Where patients will not only receive world-class medical care, but also the compassion and dignity they deserve.”

Other public figures in attendance were Gloucester County Commissioner Director Frank DiMarco and state Sen. John Burzichelli.
