Police annual citizens’ academy begins in March

The Voorhees Township Police Department will host its annual citizens’ police academy beginning on
Thursday, March 6. Participants will meet on most Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and the session will conclude with a graduation ceremony on April 10.

Training will take place at the police department and several off-site locations. The will offer our residents an inside exclusive look at the training and behind-the-scenes activities that make the Voorhees police
department function in a professional, effective and efficient manner on a daily basis.
 
The course will cover firearms simulator training; crime scene investigations and mock crime scenes; patrol and investigations; K-9 demonstrations; police use of force and officer stress; a tour of the Central Communications Center (911); the traffic unit and mock car stops; internal affairs and body-worn cameras; and community affairs, school safety and domestic violence.

The academy will host approximately 30 township residents ages 18 and over. Applicants will be
required to successfully pass a background examination including warrant, NCIC, driver’s
license checks and NJ and interstate criminal history checks. Those who are accepted will be
notified via email. Selected applicants will also need to complete a waiver of liability form.
