Monroe police investigate homicide

The Monroe Township Police Department is investigating the murder of an adult male on Dec. 30.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Texas Avenue in the Colonial Estates at about 8:08 p.m., after a caller reported hearing the sound of a gunshot, police said in social media post. Officers began speaking with residents and searching the area, detaining three individuals in the vicinity. A canine was deployed and located the victim with a gunshot wound in a nearby backyard. The male was identified as Qaasir K. Greenidge, 19, from the Sicklerville section of Winslow Township and was later pronounced dead at Jefferson Hospital, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.

The homicide investigation is ongoing and there is no threat to the public. Investigators were on scene throughout the evening of Dec. 30 and the following day to process the crime scene and collect evidence.

On Dec. 31, an autopsy was conducted by the Gloucester County Medical Examiner, and it was determined that Greenidge died from a single gunshot wound, and the manner of death was homicide.

The shooting remains under investigation by the prosecutor’s office and the Monroe Township Police Department. Any witnesses are requested to contact Monroe Det.
