A 75-year-old Salem County man died on Dec. 19 from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash on Bridgeton Pike in the township.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford pickup was traveling northbound on the pike (Route 45) at about 10:50 a.m. when its driver entered the roadway’s southbound lane to avoid a collision with another vehicle that had stopped to turn onto Heritage Road. The pickup – driven by a 33-year-old Woodbury resident who remained on scene – struck head on a Chrysler minivan driven by David Butler that was headed south on the pike.

Butler had to be extricated from the vehicle before he was transported to Inspira Medical Center in Mullica Hill. He was eventually flown by helicopter to Cooper Trauma Center in Camden, where he died.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Mantua police at (856) 589-0911.
