Main Street surveying on tap

Moorestown is moving into the next phase of infrastructure improvements along Main Street. As a result, the township engineer (Pennoni) will conduct surveying for four weeks along the street. The work area extends along Main from Church Street to Chester Avenue, and continues down Chester Avenue to Bridgeboro Road.

The improvements include an underground utility survey, during which Pennoni’s team will mark out all utility lines with bright pink paint. Residents are advised that the mark-outs may extend beyond the street and include the right of way. Surveying marks may potentially extend onto sidewalks and lawns, but all paint is temporary and will fade.

To limit interference, surveying will take place sporadically during the day and evening. Pennoni’s surveyors will walk around with equipment for three weeks to create a digital map of Main Street’s existing conditions. Surveying is a necessary precursor to the replacement of the water main and the paving of the street.

The work along Main Street is more involved than typical paving because of a 100-year-old concrete water main and trolley tracks beneath the road. In addition, shallow trolley tracks that have contributed to the road’s premature aging will also be removed.
