Mullica Hill ushered in the holiday season with its annual Lights on Main event on Nov. 30.

The event drew thousands of people from in and out of the community, according to the Harrison Township Recreation Commission. Main Street was adorned with Christmas lights and Santa and Mrs. Claus were in attendance. Activities included carriage rides and the Elfie Selfie Stop, along with live music on two stages. Main Street’s shops and businesses also featured special sales.

The Old Town Hall Museum was open, with an exhibit from the historical society dubbed “Last Call: Taverns and Temperance.” The main event was the lighting of the tree.

“Lights on Main is always an amazing way to kick off the Christmas holiday,” said Mullica Hill resident Ed Miller. “Each year is better than the previous year. I’ve begun noticing how the people attending are younger, with young kids, as the homes in the Mullica Hill neighborhoods have started to refresh with young families.

“I always look forward to seeing all of the kids I’ve watched grow up, go off to college and come home for the Thanksgiving weekend and catch up with them during the night.”

The recreation commission helped organize the event and funding came from primary sponsor Inspira.

“It brings families from within Mullica Hill and surrounding areas together to welcome the holiday season,” recreation coordinator Sharon Chew noted of Lights on Main. “Each year, we try to add something special to it.”

“The recreation department is hands down the best,” said Deputy Mayor Lawrence Moore.

“It went off without a hitch,” Mayor Louis Manzo observed. “It was a great event. They really did a great job. All of the volunteers, the PD (police) and our public works crew … They did an awesome job, as usual.”
