Vineland woman charged in fatal hit and run

A 26-year-old Vineland woman was charged with allegedly leaving the scene after her car fatally struck a 58-year-old man walking on Fries Mill Road in the area of Joseph Drive on Nov. 4, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.

Details of the accident – including time and place and a description and photographs of the suspected vehicle, a 2021 silver Honda Civic – were released to the public on Nov. 15. As a result, the car and the driver who struck John DeMarco were identified by a citizen, according to a press release from the prosecutor.

Detectives from the Washington Township Police Department and the prosecutor’s office located the vehicle at Destiny Esquilin’s residence on Nov. 20. The car had visible damage consistent with the fatal hit and run. Esquilin was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash, a second-degree crime, and was released pending a future court date.
