We gathered on Monday, Nov. 11, to observe Veterans Day, a time dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who have served in the United States armed forces. It is a time to not only reflect on the sacrifices made by veterans but also to express our deepest gratitude for the freedoms they have safeguarded through their service.

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” in 1919, marking the first anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1954, following World War II and the Korean War, it was renamed “Veterans Day” to honor all American veterans, past and present. It serves as a reminder of the courage, commitment, and resilience shown by our military personnel, as well as the important role they have played—and continue to play—in securing our nation’s liberty.

Here in Harrison Township, we’ve created a special place for you to personally honor the veterans in your life. The Harrison Township Veterans Memorial, located at the entrance of the William Wilt Soccer Complex, is a place for reflection and remembrance. The walkway leading to the memorial, known as “Hero Lane,” is lined with engraved brick pavers, each honoring a veteran who has served our country. I invite you to consider purchasing a paver in honor of a veteran in your family or circle of friends.

To order a paver, you can click here or contact our Municipal Clerk, Julie Cundey, at 856-478-4111, Ext. 6136.

This Veterans Day, let us come together to show our appreciation for the service and sacrifice of our veterans. They have earned our respect and gratitude not just today, but every day.

Together for Harrison Township,
Lou Manzo,
Your mayor
