Former Cinnaminson Mayor William J. “Bill” O’Connor, chair of the township’s planning board, died last month. He was 68.
The township posted O’Connor’s passing on Oct. 17 in a Facebook post.
O’Connor was born in Camden to the late William and Marie (née Aiena) O’Connor, according to his obituary. A longtime resident of Cinnaminson, he held various public-service roles, including seven years on the township committee and mayor.
During his time in those positions, O’Connor managed a 24-person department with three on-site supervisors as director of Public Works and Parks and Recreation; initiated an annual township roadway repair and paving program; developed township-wide recycling schedules for leaves and brush; and secured funding for park and road improvements, according to his LinkedIn page.
O’Connor began serving on the planning board in January of 2021 and was board chairman when he passed. He was also active in community sports, particularly Cinnaminson baseball, where he served as past president. O’Connor also had a 35-year career with the Delaware River Port Authority, enjoyed Philadelphia sports and cherished spending time with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda (née Crews); his sons, Robert O’Connor and William (Teri) O’Connor; and his grandson, R.J. O’Connor. A visitation was held on Oct. 20 and 21, followed by a memorial service at Weber Funeral Home in Riverton.
