Beware donation scams

With the upcoming elections – as well as the tragic results of hurricanes in Florida and North Carolina – Deptford residents may be inundated with texts and emails asking for donations. Be sure you are giving your money and banking information to the right people.

If you want to donate to a political campaign, go directly to the website of a candidate. Do not click on any links sent through texts or emails. Similarly, go directly to the website of the charity to which you want to donate. Be sure you are dealing with a reputable organization and be wary of GoFundMe accounts or Venmo requests for charities.
