Core was a life-long resident of Mullica Hill, and her two children attended Harrison and Pleasant Valley elementary school. Core started her career at the former as an instructional aide. After working as an instructional assistant, she decided she wanted to become a teacher. She completed her student teaching at Pleasant Valley with colleague Megan Sakhleh, and after student teaching, she took a second-grade teaching position at Harrison.

Core’s children followed in her footsteps and became teachers. Laura Core Wygant lives in Mullica Hill, teaches at Harrison Elementary, and has three children, two of whom are students at the school. Nick Core got married in September and was named the head baseball coach at Clearview High School.

“Every person who knew Janet loved her,” the Harrison school district noted on Facebook. “Janet Core made the world a better place. Today we wear green in her honor. Thanks to all who continue wearing green to honor such an incredible person.”
