Southampton school board race uncontested

Three candidates will run in an uncontested race for school board seats on the Southampton Township Board of Education in the election, Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Incumbents Betty L. Wright, who is running on the slogan All Students Matter, and Joseph C. Allen, who is running on the slogan Children, Family, Reason, are running with Brett W. Hart.

Board members Katie Topf, who is serving as board vice president, and Melissa Walker are not seeking another term.

There is an unexpired one-year term that is open on the board. No petitions were filed for the seat.

All were asked to submit an election questionnaire. As of deadline, Allen and Hart had not responded.

How many years have you lived in Southampton? Over 50 years

Family: Widow with two adult children, who attended Southampton schools, five granddaughters.

School and degree: College one and a half years

Profession:  Retired Bank Manager

Is this the first time you have run for a seat for BOE? No, 39 years for 13 terms.

What is your involvement in the community? Long time member of the Buddtown United Methodist Church and council chairman; member of the STAR Foundation; president of Pinelands Young at Heart Club.

Why are you running for an elected seat?  I am running for election to continue my service to the community. I feel it is both an honor and privilege to help oversee our schools and the education of the students, I have dedicated many years doing such. It is important for the future of ALL our CHILDREN to provide the best education we can while being fiscally responsible.

What is one area you would like to concentrate on if elected? I would like to concentrate on our upcoming plans for expanding pre-school education, also upgrade security and technology.
