Gloucester County Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH), in partnership with the First Baptist Church of Jericho, successfully completed their inaugural Rock the Block event on Sept. 14.
The community-driven initiative marked the beginning of a much-anticipated home repair program that will provide critical assistance to low-income residents in the area, according to a press release through GCHFH.
Over 50 volunteers from throughout the region came together to complete necessary home repairs for five local families. The event was a testament to the power of community collaboration and the positive impact it can have on the lives of those in need.
Pastor Derek Gatling of the First Baptist Church of Jericho in Deptford expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community, stating, “This event allows us to demonstrate our commitment to helping our seniors make necessary repairs to their homes.”
Ashley Griffiths, executive director at GCHFH, echoed Gatling’s sentiments, and said, “We are incredibly grateful to partner with the First Baptist Church of Jericho for our inaugural Rock the Block event. Neighborhood revitalization has always been a cornerstone of Habitat’s mission, and we’re excited to engage the community in this important work.”
The success of the Rock the Block event was made possible thanks to the generous support of numerous community partners and organizations, including Cipriani Home Remodeling. GCHFH was the recipient of a $2,000 check from Chick-fil-A’s summer “Floats for Hope” campaign. The award was presented following a breakfast hosted by Chick-fil-A Deptford for all Rock the Block volunteers.
The Rock the Block event serves as a catalyst for the upcoming home repair program, which will officially launch in 2025. This program is designed to provide essential home repairs to low-income residents, improving their quality of life and overall well-being.
Since its inception in 1986, GCHFH has continued its mission to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing to those in need. It has served Gloucester County’s more than 290,000 residents by providing low-income families with the opportunity to purchase safe, decent, and affordable homes that improve the family’s quality of life and strengthen the communities throughout the county.
